SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION
We’re working to ensure that all newly constructed and retrofitted rental locations are efficient and sustainable. Enterprise is investing more than $150 million in sustainable construction.
SETTING THE STANDARD
Our newly established guidelines, called the Enterprise Sustainable Construction Protocol (ESCP), are comprised of sustainable features for all construction projects, and ensure that new and retrofitted facilities are designed, built and managed sustainably.
GOING BEYOND
These guidelines help advance our commitment to environmental stewardship and smart business by exceeding customers' expectations and providing a healthy workplace for our employees. The ESCP guidelines will also reduce our costs by cutting energy and water utilities.

ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR AT O’HARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN CHICAGO
Opened in 2010, the O’Hare location is the car rental industry's first LEED Silver-certified independent rental facility and our company's third LEED-certified facility. A significant percentage of the materials used in construction of the facility were from regional sources to reduce carbon emissions associated with transporting materials. Other sustainable features, which have reduced the facility's water use by 22% and energy use by 15% include:
- A "green" roof system that provides a habitat for native plants.
- Storm water detention/retention systems to reduce discharge into downstream watercourses.
- Energy-efficient lighting.
- A system for recycling car wash water.
